Veterans Food Bank

Veterans   Food   Bank The Veterans   Food   Bank of Calgary is a service provided by CALGARY VETERANS SERVICES SOCIETY, founded in August 2018, to serve   food   security and other resource needs of veterans from Calgary and surrounding area. The Veterans   Food   Bank of Calgary supports veterans who served in all branches of the Canadian Armed Forces, Reserves and first responders. Copperfield School will be collecting   food   donations starting on October 30 through until November 8, 2023. If you can donate   food   items, it would be greatly appreciated. Items that are urgently needed are canned meats and chili/stew, ground coffee, flour, cereal, Kleenex, pudding cups, canned mushrooms, juice boxes, granola bars, cookies, rice, pancake mix, hamburger helper, plastic wrap, toilet paper, mac and cheese, and spices. Mustard Seed Speaker - Thursday, October 19th, 2023

  Hello Grade 5 Families,  This week on October. 19th,  we will be welcoming guest speaker Cecily Letendre, the community engagement coordinator from  The Mustard Seed . She will be talking about homelessness in downtown Calgary to prepare our students for our weeks at City Hall and Library School, and relating these topics to resilience.  The Mustard Seed is a non-profit organization that has been caring for individuals experiencing homelessness and poverty since 1984. Operating in five cities across Alberta and British Columbia, The Mustard Seed is a supportive haven where people can have their physical, mental, and spiritual needs met and grow toward greater health and independence. Wednesday, September 27th - Mr. Magowan and Mr. Patry read to us and challenged us to  Lead With Our Hearts while thinking about Truth & Reconciliation Tuesday, September 26th - Pond Dipping Monday, September 25th - Sit Spots on the south end of the pond  Connecting to the Land We will revisit our spots throughout the year including in all four seasons!

 Today we had an assembly where Mr. Patry shared his connection to the Land. We reflected and wrote about our own connection to the land. Later on in the day we choose a sit spot for the year where we will visit in each season.

We are required to have several volunteers in order to run this program for the week. Please complete your security Clearances and get back to me asap with the date(s) you are able volunteer for.  Open Minds City Hall School November. 27th - Dec. 1st Campus Calgary / Open Minds is an innovative school program that brings the classroom to vibrant community settings. Teachers, students and community experts come together for a week-long curriculum-based experience, designed to meet the needs of each individual learner. The result is a catalyst for learning activities throughout the year that inspire and prompt critical thinking and problem solving.
